NIOS
(National Institute of Open Schooling)

NIOS is an “Open School” to cater to the needs of a heterogeneous group of learners up to pre-degree level. It was started as a project with in-built flexibilities by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 1979. In 1986, the National Policy on Education suggested strengthening of Open School System for extending open learning facilities in a phased manner at secondary level all over the country as an independent system with its own curriculum and examination leading to certification. Consequently, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India set up the National Open School (NOS) in November 1989.

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) provides opportunities to interested learners by making available the following Courses/Programmes of Study through open and distance learning (ODL) mode.

  • Open Basic Education (OBE) Programme for 14+ years age group, adolescents and adults at A, B and C levels that are equivalent to classes III, V and VIII of the formal school system.

  • Secondary Education Course

  • Senior Secondary Education Course

  • Vocational Education Courses/Programmes

  • Life Enrichment Programmes

Montfort Academy launched the NIOS programme in 2008. Some of the salient features are:

  • We provide coaching for Xth, XIIth and Vocational Training.

  • The purpose of starting NIOS was to help non-formal trainees to complete their secondary education along with the training programme they have opted for at Montfort Academy.

  • NIOS is an educational programme by the Government of India to help students to complete their studies up to senior secondary level.

  • NIOS study programme benefits mainly students who are not in a position to go through their regular schooling.

  • The student are free to choose 5 subjects of their choice.

From the year 2008 , hundreds of students have passed out successfully from Montfort Academy , pursued their higher education and are employed in various firms and organizations in India as well as abroad.

​

The students who take admission to open school X & XII have to choose a skill of their choice along with the regular NIOS tuitions. It is mandatory for all the students who aspire to complete their X & XII through NIOS at Montfort Academy.
